Alsace: Colmar, Eguisheim, Kayseberg

Near the borders that divide France with Germany, in the "route de vin" stands one of the most beautiful regions of France.

In Alsace, you will find many small medieval towns and villages  like taken from a fairy-tale.

Not many people know about this part of France, and the visitors come mainly from France. That means that you won't find tourists from other countries.

The reason behind that is that it's not easy to reach, since is almost 400 km from Paris. Another option is to fly to  Strasburg  and then take a train to Colmar which is only 75 km away.

We drove with our car all the way to Colmar from Germany while we enjoyed seeing vast vineyards, idyllic villages and castles on small green hills..

It was mid of August and so hot when we arrived to our hotel in Colmar, that the only thing we wanted  to have was a cold drink.. but we didn't..

Once you be in this unique city you can not stop wondering around.. It is like a playground or a fairy-tale city and you want to see more and more..

The houses are a mix of German architecture and Frenche culture , half- timpered, wooden, full of flowers and colors. They are standing there calling on you to take a picture with your camera or just with a blink of your eyes a snap-shot for your memory book..

Every spot of the city is joyful, and the most photographed spot  is the "little venice", a neightborhood that small colofur houses lean on the river side.

Maneken -Pis de Colmar like the one in Brussels,  St Martin's church, museum Bartholdi where you can see the statue of Liberty like the one in New York, Schwendi Foundain, Maison Pfister, House of Head, Adolph's House - one of the oldest in Colmar - are only some of the places you should visit in Colmar.

Being in this beautiful region of France is an excellent opportunity to set off into the countryside to discover Alsace’s amazing wines fields and the villages that lie beneath the sun.

                            Like Eguisheim..

Only 5 km south of Colmar, this picturesque village will steal your heart..

We were there around 9.00 in the morning and everything was so quite and peaceful..

Many of the builbings have signs which reminds you you are in Alsace, a place that the main employment of the residents is winery.

Vins d'Alsace Joseph Freudenreich et fils

Colorful houses with timber framed facades, this medieval village is one of the most beautiful in France..Actually in May 2013 it was voted  the "Village préféré des Français", meaning France's favorite village, and the more you walk in the small cobblestone streets the more you understand why...

Do not forget to look up for the nests of Stork in the bell tower of Chiesa del castello..

Simple images yet so beautiful that will never be forgotten..

                              Kayseberg

Although the name may confuse you, it sounds so German, Kayseberg is another charming  town in Alsace.

This small city is also a must if you're visiting the area.

It will definately steal your heart with it's charm..

Pont Fortifie, Saint Constantine Foundain, Eglise de l'Invention de la Sainte Croix, the city hall,  and the ruins of Schlossberg that up from the hill overlook this wine village, some of the spots you should visit.

Although Alsace is one of the most visited ereas in France, especially for French, towns and villages offer a sense of tranquility , such a refreshing feeling that will make you  feel the urge to return and enjoy such a different way of life.
